Petersburg, AK is a small fishing town on the norther tip of Mitkof Island in Southeast Alaska. The population sits around 3,200, with a huge spike in population during the summer due to fishing and tourism. The town is known as "Alaska's Little Norway," and it is easy to see the Norwegian influences in the area.

The three major employers (now two, as Ocean Beauty announced it was skipping the 2010 season) are Trident Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods and Ocean Beauty seafoods. I am told that these canneries employ migrant workers and eastern Europeans during the summer.
According to the visitor guide (compiled and published by the Pilot), there are around 40,000 visitors during the summer, even though major tour boats cannot access the town.
